H0205050_Who abandoned poor little dog #puppy #golden The Czinger 21C VMax: A Hypercar That Redefines the Limits of Performance and Design From the Silicon Valleys of Southern California, a new era of hypercar is dawning. But is it a dream come true or a technological nightmare?
For years, the automotive world has been buzzing about Czinger. The Southern California-based company, founded by father and son duo Kevin and Lukas Czinger, has been quietly revolutionizing the supercar industry. Their latest creation, the Czinger 21C VMax, is a masterpiece of engineering that combines cutting-edge additive manufacturing with a hybrid powertrain, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in a road-legal car. But is this avant-garde hypercar the future of automotive design, or just another over-the-top indulgence for the ultra-rich? The Factory of the Future: A Glimpse into Divergent Technologies Before diving into the Czinger 21C VMax experience, it’s essential to understand the company behind it. Czinger is a subsidiary of Divergent Technologies, a pioneer in additive manufacturing. Using artificial intelligence and huge 3D printers, Divergent produces lightweight and strong mechanical components that redefine automotive engineering. The company’s technology is so advanced that it supplies parts to the Department of Defense, making Czinger a force not just in the supercar world, but also in advanced aerospace and defense engineering. During a visit to Divergent’s state-of-the-art facility, I was given a tour by the visionary CEO, Lukas Czinger. Walking through the factory floor felt like stepping into the future. Massive 3D printers fired lasers into powdered aluminum, creating automotive components that resembled delicate bird bones. Lukas explained that the company’s technology reaches the “Pareto optimal,” where any change in mass becomes a negative. This obsession with optimization allows Czinger to design parts that are the strongest and lightest possible, pushing performance to its absolute limit. The Czinger 21C VMax: A Masterpiece of Hybrid Engineering Czinger produces two versions of its flagship hypercar: the high-downforce, track-focused 21C and the wingless, long-tailed VMax. For the inaugural Velocity Tour, a 500-mile road rally through Central and Northern California’s wine country, I had the privilege of piloting the silver VMax. The cabin of the VMax is a sensory experience unlike any other. Dubbed as “jet fighter-like,” it feels more like a cockpit than a traditional interior. With glass less than a foot away from both sides of your head, the visibility is exceptional. However, getting in and out of the car is a ridiculous ballet of contortions. You have to sit with your legs facing out on the massive sill, pull your knees up, tuck your feet into the footwell, and slide your head under the roof. It’s an elaborate process that requires practice, but the unique experience is worth the effort. The Heart of the Machine: A Hybrid Powerhouse The Czinger 21C VMax is a hybrid hypercar powered by a unique V-8 engine combined with electric motors. Each sill houses a 2.2-kWh battery, for a total of 4.4 kWh. The V-8 engine, designed by Czinger, produces 750 hp on California’s 91-octane premium unleaded fuel, or 850 hp on 100-octane race fuel. The gas engine powers the rear wheels via an Xtrac single-clutch automated semi-sequential gearbox, but Czinger’s 3D printing technology extends to the transmission, allowing for smaller 48-volt electric motors to smooth out shifts at low speeds. This eliminates the drunken, surging feeling common in other automated single-clutch gearboxes, making low-speed maneuvers feel almost normal. Track Time: Pushing the Boundaries of Performance
Czinger’s commitment to performance is evident on the track. I had the opportunity to ride shotgun with pro driver Evan Jacobs as he took the VMax for some “6/10ths” hot laps at Laguna Seca. The ride was breathtaking, with the car hugging the corners like a spider on a web. The VMax’s weight of approximately 3,600 pounds, combined with its 1,250 hp, makes it a beast that can challenge the likes of the Ferrari SF90 Stradale Assetto Fiorano and the Lamborghini Temerario. Czinger has set an incredible precedent with the 21C VMax. The car has set five production car track records—at Thunder Hill, Sonoma Raceway, Laguna Seca, Willow Springs, and the Thermal Club—in just five days. Later, Czinger reclaimed the throne at Laguna Seca from the Koenigsegg Jesko Sadair, with a blistering lap time of 1 minute, 22.30 seconds, faster than the fastest MotoAmerica Superbike ever recorded at the track. On the Road: A Journey Through California The Velocity Tour took us through the winding roads of Central and Northern California, but the route wasn’t ideal for a hypercar. The roads were tight, winding, and lousy, not the type of asphalt that hypercar dream trips are made of. Plus, I had a professional driver for the first day, and Czinger doesn’t allow non-Czinger employees to drive the VMax on racetracks. Despite the rough roads, the VMax performed admirably. The air conditioning worked well, but the cabin was surprisingly loud. There seemed to be a complete lack of sound deadening, which is great for a track car but annoying for a road car. While I understand that weight is the enemy of performance, how much does sound-deadening foam weigh? Twenty pounds? Twenty-five? Google AI says between 10 and 50 pounds. How about just 10 pounds of the stuff, then? It would be a big improvement overall. The Limits of Performance: Too Much for the Road? When I finally got to open up the Czinger 21C VMax on some proper California canyon roads, I was amazed by its performance. The car accelerates so fast that you have to brake almost immediately after getting on the throttle. I’ve driven EVs with this much power, but there’s just so much more weight. I’ve driven the Ferrari F80, which makes about the same power but does so with less electric help and more gas engine. The Czinger is just a different species of accelerative animal. This is the first time I’ve ever said this in my career, but I think this car might be too much for public roads. Every time I got into the throttle, the braking zone appeared. It’s like the car bends the road rather than rolling over it. Yes, I despise saying it, but in this lone case, the Czinger VMax on 91-octane gas is just too much. That said, it corners beautifully and has a prodigious amount of grip. Southern California canyons are bigger and faster than the ones we drove through up north. I’d love to have a go on something like Angeles Crest or Highway 33; it just might be the case that too much is not enough. But it’s probably more than plenty, and then some. Who Is This Car For? Odds are if you’re looking at a $2.5 million tandem-seat hypercar, this is not the first ultra-performance ride you’ll own. You probably have a garage or two (or a warehouse) full of stuff including all manner of fancy, carbon-fibery, overpowered toys. You might think that just like your Porsche collection, they’re all basically the same. Well, has Czinger ever got something different for you. Plus, Czinger’s only building 80 of these cars. Ferrari is making 10 times more F80s, and those cost about double. Also, I have it on good authority that the follow-up to the 21C VMax is going to have good old-fashioned seating, the kind where you can hold hands with the person sitting next to you. But if you live in this world, you might as well grab the Czinger that started it all.
Looking for a hypercar that pushes the boundaries of performance and design? Explore the Czinger 21C VMax and experience a ride that will redefine your perception of speed and innovation. Contact our sales team today to learn more about this limited-edition masterpiece and schedule your test drive.
