The Man Rescued a Baby Octopus and Then Took It Home to Raise

One quiet afternoon by the rocky shore of a coastal village, a man named Thomas was walking along the beach, collecting sea glass and driftwood as he often did after work. The tide was low, and pools of seawater formed between the rocks, temporarily trapping small sea creatures until the waves returned to free them. As Thomas leaned over to inspect one of these tide pools, something unusual caught his eye — a tiny, trembling form struggling to survive in the shallow water.

Curious, he knelt down for a closer look and discovered a baby octopus no larger than the palm of his hand. The small creature had likely been swept too close to shore and was now stranded, far from the safety of deeper waters. Its skin was dull and its movements weak, a clear sign that it was distressed and dehydrated under the harsh sun. Moved by compassion, Thomas gently scooped the baby octopus into a plastic container he always carried for sea glass, filled it with seawater, and rushed home.

Although Thomas had no experience raising marine animals, he was a lifelong animal lover and couldn’t bear the thought of letting the creature die. He immediately began researching how to care for octopuses, reading scientific articles, joining online marine biology forums, and even reaching out to aquarium experts. He learned that octopuses are incredibly intelligent and sensitive animals that require very specific living conditions, such as temperature control, hiding spaces, clean saltwater, and a proper diet of live food.

Within a few days, Thomas had converted a large spare aquarium in his living room into a suitable habitat for the octopus. He installed filtration systems, added rocks and artificial coral for hiding, and carefully recreated the baby’s natural environment. He named the tiny octopus “Inky,” inspired by the famous octopus escape artist from a New Zealand aquarium.

Raising Inky proved to be both a challenge and a joy. Octopuses are known for their problem-solving abilities and curiosity. Inky would often rearrange rocks in the tank, hide in impossible corners, and even attempt to open the lid of the aquarium. Thomas spent hours watching the little creature explore, observing its behavior and personality evolve over time. He began documenting Inky’s growth and intelligence on social media, attracting a community of marine life enthusiasts and conservationists.

As weeks turned into months, Inky grew healthier and stronger. Thomas hand-fed him live shrimp and crabs, carefully monitored water quality, and continued adjusting the tank as Inky’s needs changed. The bond between them grew as well, in the silent language of mutual trust and respect. Inky would recognize Thomas when he approached the tank, changing color or waving its arms in response.

But Thomas also knew that no matter how strong their bond had become, an octopus is a wild animal meant for the sea. After six months, Inky had grown too large for the tank, and Thomas knew it was time to say goodbye. With a heavy heart but a clear conscience, he brought Inky back to the same beach where they had first met. The tide was high and the sky was painted with the warm colors of the setting sun. Gently placing the octopus in a tide pool, Thomas watched as Inky hesitated for a moment, then slowly slipped back into the ocean, disappearing beneath the waves.

The experience changed Thomas’s life. He developed a deep appreciation for marine life and eventually began volunteering at a local marine rescue center. His story inspired many people to respect ocean creatures and consider the impact of pollution and human interference on marine ecosystems.

In rescuing a baby octopus, Thomas hadn’t just saved a life — he had formed a bond across species, gained knowledge, and found a new purpose. Sometimes, the smallest acts of kindness can lead to the most meaningful journeys.

Just like its predecessor, the Mercedes G63 AMG has become the most natural thing to grow in Dubai’s landscape. Therefore, it was only a matter of time until this was added to the Dubai Police supercar and exotic vehicle fleet. However, since there are so many G63 AMGs on Dubai’s streets, the police went for a bit of added spice, a 700 HP Brabus version.

A Brabus 700 Widestar was dressed in the White and Green Dubai Police uniform. The “look-at-me!” Brabus elements, such as the wheels, the extra LEDs in the front apron and the wing roof, now meet the light bar on top of the G-Class.

The development is also a part of the TUNE IT! SAFE! program, which has seen multiple custom cars receive the police livery over the years, such as an Abt Audi R8 GTR or another Brabus, this time a Mercedes A-Class. However, the projects were confined to Germany’s borders until now.

Speaking of this, the Duabi Police Brabus 700 is being showcased at the Dubai International Motor Show, to be held from 5 to 9 November 2013 in the Dubai World Trade Center. Here, the authroities are also showing other vehicles from the special fleet.
