🧡 The Day I Met a Little Soul on the Road
That afternoon, the sun was fading behind the city skyline when I caught sight of something unusual on the roadside. 🚗☀️
A small orange shape — still and trembling. As I slowed down, my heart sank. It was a kitten, barely a month old, crouched beside another cat lying motionless on the asphalt.
The mother had been hit by a car. She was gone. 💔
But the kitten stayed beside her, crying softly, nudging her face again and again as if trying to wake her up. Each tiny meow felt like a plea — “Mom, please get up…”
I pulled over and knelt down. The little one looked up at me with frightened eyes but refused to leave its mother’s side. It clung to her fur, wrapping its paws around her lifeless body. My chest tightened. I couldn’t just drive away.
So I went back to my car, found a small plastic bag and a screwdriver, and dug a shallow grave under a nearby tree. 🌳🕯
As I lifted the mother cat carefully and laid her into the earth, the kitten cried louder — scratching at the dirt as if it could somehow pull her back. That moment… broke something inside me.
When I finally picked up the kitten, it didn’t fight anymore. It just went limp in my hands, exhausted, heartbroken. I whispered, “It’s okay, little one. You’re safe now.” ❤️
That night, I brought it home.
At first, it wouldn’t eat. It hid in the corner, staring at nothing, trembling every time it heard a noise. I placed one of my son’s plush toys beside it — a small bear — hoping the soft warmth might comfort it. 🧸💤
Slowly, the kitten began to cuddle against the toy. It started to sleep again, pressing its face against the fabric, kneading it gently like it once did with its mother’s fur. Watching that tiny creature grieving quietly broke my heart all over again. 💦🐾
Two weeks have passed since that day. The little ginger now follows me everywhere — from the kitchen to the garden. When I work at my desk, it curls up on my lap, purring faintly. Sometimes I catch it staring out the window at the setting sun, and I wonder if it still thinks of her. 🌅
It taught me something I’ll never forget:
Love and loss don’t belong only to humans. Even the smallest heart knows how to hold on, and how to miss.
From now on, this little soul won’t be alone anymore.
It may have lost a mother that day, but it gained a home — and I gained a reason to be gentler with the world. 🏡💖
Because sometimes, you don’t just save a life — you become a part of it. 🌈🐱
